“Turkey Vultures: Friend or Foe” is the July Werner Wildlife Series topic on Thursday, July 18, at 7 p.m.

Guest presenter Joanne Theobald will share her vast collection of photographs and videos and information about turkey vulture traits, habits, and folklore, according to Dalene Hodnett, director of museums. “Weather and turkey vulture presence permitting, there might even be a short walk to observe some of the birds that live only a short distance from the museum,” said Hodnett.

Theobald, former director of counseling at Casper College, participates in the University of Wyoming’s Wyoming Naturalist Program and is working on the mule deer initiative on Casper Mountain. “My real passion is turkey vultures. For the past six years, a group of about 40 has roosted in the spruce trees behind my house, and I’ve become obsessed with them. People have many negative misconceptions about them, and I’d like to educate others about these amazing creatures,” Theobald said.

The presentation will be free, family-friendly, and open to the public. It will take place in the museum’s Africa-Arctic Room. For more information, call 307-235-2108.
